MARSH GRASS

Silverpoint on tinted gesso     7 x 15
matted and framed     $110

Silverpoint (or “metalpoint” ) refers to a piece of silver, gold, bronze, copper, or lead inserted into a holder and used like a pencil. It must be worked on a prepared gesso surface that grabs the silver particles. In time they tarnish which is very attractive. It takes a very long time to develop a metalpoint drawing. There is a delicacy to a drawing made this way that can’t be duplicated by anything else. It is from the leadpoint that we get our “lead” pencils, but pencils have never contained any lead. Our modern pencil is made of graphite and clay.
