When I was young I painted “plein air” often. It was wonderful to be able to observe directly the effects of sunlight and shadow. Eventually I became more of a studio painter, preferring not to have to talk to strangers while I paint, and knowing what the sun had already done to my skin I avoided working outside. Nevertheless, I was intrigued to find the “Florida Plein Air Association” alive and well in my area, so I joined. I went to a few of their outings, and the painting illustrated here is one of them. It was painted from the 2nd floor balcony of the Clearwater Aquarium.
