During my college years I studied all summer with Robert Brackman, first at his teaching studio in Noank, Connecticut and later in Madison, Connecticut. Madison wasn’t all that far from Mystic, about 45 or 50 minutes down the Interstate. But my dear grandmother wanted me to be ‘comfortable” and so she saw to it that I had a place to stay while in Madison and I had a little rental cottage. In the back of that cottage were these trees, and I would paint all day and come back to the cottage, make supper and paint half the night. Ah, youth! Sometime later this painting was exhibited in a gallery in Mystic that burned to the ground. One day, lamenting the loss of my painting to one of the locals, he indicated that it might not have gone up in the blaze but out the door before it started. There is no way to know for sure, but someday it might turn up, or not, depending….
