I lived in a rural part of Stonington, Connecticut, in an old farmhouse that had a barn behind the house. I was happy to be able to renovate the barn into a very beautiful studio. When went to work Mousse, my Toy Poodle went with me. I remember very well the struggle I had with Mousse who insisted in screwing himself round and round and then plopped down in my still life. I would shoo him away and in minutes he was back. This went on for some time during the preliminary work on this painting and finally I got tired of the war and told him “OK, you’re going to be in the painting now!” He seemed to understand all that, and when I went to work he went right to his place and took up his pose. It was uncanny for sure!
