For years, maybe as many as 16 when I moved to Florida, I have wanted to paint “A Patch of Blue”. I have a 36 x 48 canvas all set to go, which is still blank and gathering dust and mold out on the porch, which was to be the cloud painting called “A Patch of Blue”. In the head these paintings feel finished! However, that’s easy, and the hard part is from head to canvas. Then a friend GAVE me a tiny container of Lapis Lazuli pigment. This was the real stuff! I had bought what I thought was the Real Stuff once and it was awful; not blue but a grayish mush. $80 down the drain for that adventure, and it was too intimidating to buy any more, and I couldn’t come up with the hundred, or more, dollars anyway. So on opening the little tin of pigment the Patch of B lue sizzled in my eyes. The rest was a long and tedious trip from the head to the gesso panel on this one and long stretches of time lapsed between bouts of work.
The Painting is double matted and placed in a simple silver frame.
